Tilakdhari Shivaling is recognised by a naturally occurring marking resembling a Tilak on its surface. The colour, shape and position of the marking may differ naturally, making each Shivaling distinct and unrepeatable.

Tilak is traditionally used as a symbol of devotion, auspiciousness and remembrance of the Divine. Tilakdhari Shivalingas are therefore valued for their unique natural appearance as well as the spiritual significance traditionally associated with the Tilak.
